I'm super-out-of-the-loop with marvel right now but anything that reminds me of the infinity gauntlet (and has the Inhumans) is worth checking out. Plus, the penciller, Sepulveda, has a wicked style.

Grass Hut is a little tropical-looking art gallery attached in the store. This was my favorite piece that I saw, "Deathroom Shroom" by Oliver Hibert. Intertwined tails!

been neglecting blogger because tumblr is quite addictive... and easy. will eventually post a few pics from the roadtrip. I am pleased to say that while in Reno, a city renowned for debauchery, the six of us were holed up in a posh hotel room playing Maid: Exalted for hours, full of italian food. Also, skiing is cumbersome.

Mary Bell - child serial killer
When she was 10, Mary Bell strangled a 4 year old boy named Martin Brown. When she was 11, she, along with a 13 year old friend killed another boy, this time a 3 year old named Brian Howe. They strangled him, and Mary carved an “M” into his stomach, cut off his hair, and mutilated his genitals.
She was convicted shortly afterwards and served 12 years in prison, eventually she was released and granted permission to start life under a new name. She blamed her behavior on extensive sexual abuse by her mother.
She is currently 52 years old, has a daughter and a grandchild, and lives somewhere in England.

I first saw Patricia Piccinini's work at the Brides of Frankenstein exhibit at the San Jose Museum of Modern Art a few years back. Her lifelike creatures are instantly recognizable and have stuck with me since I first saw them (notably, Golden Helmeted Honeyeater).

It's been a long time since a fantasy book(s) captured my imagination and my interest so completely (not since I first read Curse of Chalion, I think), so I made a little list of my favorite aspects while I'm still at an early stage in the series.

Top 5 things I love about Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series

1. Human-wolf communication. It's done in a realistic way, and the ancientness of the link is even better.
2. Architecture of Tar Valon. Buildings shaped like natural objects came across as very modern and makes this city stand out amongst the others' more traditional forms of architecture.
3. Nynaeve. Many of the people from Two Rivers seem very naive to me, and she is no exception, but I love her rebellious attitude towards the Aes Sedai and her fearlessness.
4. Carrion-eating animals are eyes and ears for the Dark One. I never really thought about animals choosing sides since I don't consider animals "good or evil". It's interesting to take a species and give it direct involvement in a war.
5. Monuments from the Age of Legends. Archaeological sites with little to no background, even among the most learned people. Gradually uncovering them is all the more exciting when most of the other characters are also learning of them for the first time, or learning what no one else remembers.

I love it when books have maps.

I really want to watch the Avatar television series. I was over at a friend's tonight, and I caught a bit of one of the final episodes (not enough to be much of a spoiler, I think).
I've seen a bit of the series before, but I was really struck by how beautiful the animation was- not just pretty to look at, but with excellent choreography, concept design, and the kind of backgrounds that remind me of how great cartoons were in the 1980s (Thundercats and Masters of the Universe, specifically). There's only 3 seasons (not a massive commitment) and it's American, which made me proud. Moreover, it just has some bad-ass fights.
